YOU KEEP THEIR DREAMS ALIVE

Dennis has a dream—and you’re keeping it alive.
He’s a scholar of our Pag-asa ng Pamilya Scholarship Foundation, one of the 7 ministries of KerygmaFamily.
He was a consistent honor student in his elementary school years and was enjoying life, having a happy childhood.
Then a series of tragedies struck.
His mother died of breast cancer.
Soon after that, his father abandoned them.
Then his older sister got married and stopped supporting Dennis.
Temporary relief came when his godmother adopted him and transferred him to another school.
Through God’s grace, he was able to finish high school.
But graduation did not bring him any joy.
Because while everybody else was celebrating after the graduation rites, he was there on a little corner, brooding, as he thought he had reached a dead end in his education. “There was no way I could enter college,” he said to himself.
Why? Because his godmother had also stopped supporting him—because she had no more livelihood. That was when Dennis became a prayerful person, as God became his last resort.
But God wasn’t finished providing for Dennis.
One of his teachers referred him to Pag-asa ng Pamilya.
The Foundation sent him to the University of the Philippines, Manila campus. He is now taking Physical Therapy.
To augment the scholarship allowance, Dennis became a working student.
Since he had been a volunteer tutor before, he was hired in a review and tutorial center. The pay was not much, just enough for him to buy P40 meals in a cafeteria.
“To juggle and balance academic studies, hard work, and daily life is never easy. I go to school very early in the morning until afternoon. And then, I go to work after school. I go back to the dormitory at past 9 in the evening. I begin doing my school assignments and projects by that time,” said Dennis.
Many times he wanted to quit.
But the Feast he attends in Pasig every Sunday keeps him going.
His one big dream? “Lord, You have blessed my life so profoundly. I would like to be a blessing for others too.”
As a KerygmaFamily member sending a monthly Love Offering, you keep Dennis’ dreams alive.
You’re changing lives.

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

YOU MAKE THEM HEAR THE SOUND OF HOPE

Mark Anthony is totally deaf.
His father is a poor carpenter while his mother is a housewife.
The family was so poor that Mark often had to go to school on an empty stomach. The little boy had to rely on kindhearted friends for lunch and snacks.
Throughout his school life, Mark had poor grades because he failed to submit school projects. Projects that cost money.
Sometimes, he was also absent from class because he didn’t even have money to ride the jeepney to school.
But Mark persisted.
And despite all odds, the teenager finished high school.
And then the big blessing came: Mark received a scholarship from College of St. Benilde. It was a special program for the deaf. Mark only had to pay P200 per trimester. What a fantastic gift!
But despite the scholarship, Mark still couldn’t make it.
Midway through his college, he was going to drop out. Because he had no money even for his transportation to school.
He also didn’t have money for his school projects, school supplies, and even for his daily food.
And Mark was not alone in that situation.
Sharing the same boat were John Vincent Cometa, Rochele, Genalyn Morta, and Carl Louis Roldan.
All of them were totally deaf.
All of them come from very poor families.
That was when Jolan Lumawig, a Trustee of Pag-Asa Ng Pamilya (one of the ministries of Kerygma Family), heard about the five deaf students. He told us about it, and immediately, we granted them a scholarship for their daily schooling expenses.
I’m writing to you because of the happy news we received yesterday: Mark Anthony Datiles has graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Applied Deaf Studies! We were so happy for him.
Yes, he “heard” his name announced from the stage. It was the sound of hope. He walked up and got his diploma.
The four other deaf students? In due time, they too will graduate.
How? Through your faithful support, the four deaf scholars will also hear the sound of hope one day.
Today, Pagasa sends over a hundred poor young people to school.
I want to thank you for your support to Kerygma Family.
Because you make all these possible.

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

A Letter from the Founder of Pag-Asa ng Pamilya Foundation

Just checked my email today and I'll be glad to share this to everyone. As you may know, we'll be holding an event entitled "A Dinner For A Cause" which will benefit the "Redemptorist Parish Cebu Scholarship Program" and the   "Pag-asa ng Pamilya Scholarship Foundation". Just the other day, I contacted the founder of the  latter and it feels so great to receive helpful data from him. Wouldn't you be all fired up knowing that you'll be able to help many people? Well, I might just let you see it for yourself to find out what I'm saying and read the letter below from Mr. Rey Ortiga.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Bro. Jeffrey,

Thank you for your kindness in reaching out to our financially poor but persevering scholars of Pag-asa ng Pamilya Scholarship Foundation.

We are honored to be one of your event's beneficiaries.

Here are some data about our foundation that you can use:

Founded in September 1979, the foundation had produced more than a hundred college graduates and several hundreds of high school graduates.

8 of our graduates had obtained Cum Laude honors while 2 others graduated Magna Cum Laude. Quite an achievement, considering that these graduates were children of lavanderas, jeepney drivers, construction workers, farmers, Tingguian tribe in Abra, etc.

Last March-april 2013, we had produced 21 college graduates, 2 of whom graduated Cum Laude.

this year we are helping about 120 scholars, most of whom are in college. Among our scholars this year is a totally blind scholar in Iloilo, 3 scholars from the Talaandig tribe of Miarayon, Bukidnon; 5 scholars from Dumagat tribe in Sierra madre, and about a hundred scholars in Metro manila and nearby provinces who are all very poor but persevering.

We have a general meeting of metro manila-based college scholars on June 12 in LOJ office in Cubao. Bro. Obet Cabrillas is our guest speaker. We will send you pictures on June 13. (Weng/Cherry: please send pictures to bro Jeffrey).

I will also try to look for old pictures taken in the past years and send/scan them to you thru our friends Weng and Cherry.

God bless.

Rey

Nothing can be better reading a letter as such in an early morning, knowing that I will be able to help many persevering and determined children in building their dreams. Now, I am more determined to promote the "Dinner for a Cause" to benefit more of these deserving children.

P.S You can also help these poor but deserving children in achieving their dreams as well as in helping themselves by joining us in a "Dinner for a Cause". Click here for more information: https://www.facebook.com/events/577792572265761/

May you be the Light and Hope of the ones who are in need.

God Bless,
Jeffrey

Join a Dinner for a Cause and Help Create a New Future for Poor Children

One of our scholars is going to London.
Awesome!
Two years ago, Rey Ortega (Director of our Pagasa ng Pamilya Scholarship Fund) asked me if I could sponsor five (5) deaf students in College of Saint Benilde.
At that time, Pagasa was running short of funds.
So I used my book royalties to pay for their studies. (By the way, thank you for buying my books!)
One of these five deaf students is a girl named Gemmalyn. As I write this letter to you, Gemmalyn is now on her way to London.
Yabadabadoo!
From someone who had a very bleak future, her life has changed. She will now be working there and earning for her family.
I feel absolutely wonderful being a part of changing her future.
Today, I’m inviting you to experience that joy too.
By giving your monthly Loving Offering to God through KerygmaFamily, you help many scholars like Gemmalyn have a new future.
May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez
